The senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, Owerri Zone, Distinguished Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, has carried out an on the spot assessment visit to the skills training centre, sponsored by him and being built in Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State.

The lawmaker, after being taken round the gigantic edifice by the engineer handling the project, expressed satisfaction with the level of work so far done, and called for its sustenance.

He urged the engineer to work hard and try to deliver the project within the stipulated time, so that it could be put into  use for the benefit of the people of the zone and state in general.

Responding, the engineer assured  that the project will be delivered on schedule and thanked Distinguished Senator Onyewuchi for making the environment conducive for them.

The ongoing skills training centre is another strategic intervention project conceived and implemented by the lawmaker for Owerri Zone, and the chairman Senate Committee on National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, for the purpose of institutionalizing his fundamental policy of human capital development.

He believes that amid the  dwindling public sector job creation potentials, the most potent and effective strategy to tackling spiralling unemployment in his zone,is to leverage skills acquisition and empowerment, to pull his constituents out of unemployment and poverty.

He has being adopting various strategies towards meeting that objective, with the two most prominent being construction and equipping of skills training centres and regular training and empowerment of women and youths with necessary start up tools.

When completed the ongoing centre will further raise the number of skills training centres already delivered, as two ICT centres have been commissioned at Government College Owerri, and St John’s Anglican Church Umuguma.

It’s also expected that the centre will also go a long way in  making the policy more sustainable, while also  significantly raising quality assurance, as the centre will be fully equipped with the best of equipments in the market, and staffed with topnotch professionals as trainers.
