2023 Senate: I’m Determined To End  Relegation Of Okigwe Zone -Okewulonu

As presidential and National Assembly campaigns for the 2023 general elections campaigns officially kicked off on Wednesday, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Okigwe senatorial zone, Chief Emma Okewulonu has assured of his resolve to end what he described as the continued relegation and underdevelopment of the zone.

The Imo North PDP senatorial flagbearer who spoke when he was hosted by the Friends Parliament Club Owerri on Wednesday, lamented a zone that has produced notable leaders in Imo and Nigeria, ought to be in the front row in terms of economic and political development noting that such a situation informed his bid to represent Okigwe Zone in the Senate next year in other to reverse the trend.

Accompanied by his campaign director general, Sir Stanley Ekezie, Hon Jasper Chukwuemeka and other members of his team, Chief Okewulonu ( Okigwe) who paid glowing tributes to the then governor of the old Imo State,  Chief Sam Mbakwe in view of his  giant strides in governance, disclosed that his ambition was to re-enact the Mbakwe feat  and end the political asphyxiation of Okigwe Zone.

“The popular mantra that every other zone has developed except Okigwe, is something I desire so much to change.

“Okigwe Zone has suffered relegation politically and developmentally.

” And this is the situation I would want to confront headlong, if given the mandate to represent the zone in the Senate come 2023″, the Obowo-born politician maintained.

While expressing delight at the calibre of personalities who are members of the Friend’s Parliament Club, he  urged the people of Okigwe Zone to look out only for the candidate with the capacity to adequately address the challenges facing the zone in the coming general elections.

Speaking also,  Okewulonu’s campaign Director General,  Sir Stanley Ekezie thanked the Friend’s Parliament Club hosting Chief Okewulonu whom he described as the right man to give Okigwe Zone  effectiv, result-oriented representaction in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

The campaign DG expressed confidence in the electoral chances of  Okewulonu in the coming polls as according to him, the team has learnt from the Okigwe senatorial bye-election less than two years ago.

Responding, the president, Friends Parliament Club, Surveyor Chinaka Ikejah expressed satisfaction at the humility and spirit of friendliness exhibited by  Okewulonu and prayed God to grant him success in his 2023 project.

In  their separate speeches,  some notable members of the club including Chief Ifeanyi Onwunali (Speaker),  the Board of Trustees chairman of the club, Ichie Sir Bethel Onukwugha,  the general secretary, Comrade Emeka Akujuobi, Chief John Duruji, and the Club’s spiritual director, Rev Canon Onwubie thanked  Okewulonu and his entourage for finding time to interact with the club. They  therefore prayed God to guide and protect him in his endeavours.
