Akwaja Decries Women Mortality At Childbirth, Promises Quality, Affordable Healthcare

By Onyinyechi Nwankwo

Pained at the rate at which women lose their lives daily during childbirth as a result of bad healthcare system, a vibrant and God fearing female candidate for Orlu State Assembly under the political platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA,  Dr . Justina Ekene Akwuaka-Akwaja, has promised to end the alarming women mortality by attracting high quality and affordable healthcare services to her constituency when she is elected.

Dr. Akwaja who made the promise in a chat with newsmen at the grand finale of her party’s August Women Meeting 2022, held last  Saturday at the Party’s state secretariat, Owerri, vowed to pass a bill that would enable pregnant women sign for major surgery by themselves at delivery when the need arises, in order not to die due to fearful or nonchalant attitude of some of their husbands who may be fearful and thus delay or even refuse to sign for them.

She noted that time has come for christians to stand up to the responsibility of recovering the lost glory of Nigeria as the Giant of Africa.

She opined that the best place to begin the country’s rebuilding is at the legislative arm where laws for the state are made and the executive arm held accountable in executing the laws made for the good of the people.

The APGA torch bearer for Orlu State Constituency, stated that her representation would be that of a progressive and qualitative leadership where the people will be carried along, youths and women of Orlu empowered through skill acquisitions among other empowerment programs. She also blamed the youth restiveness and insecurity situation of her Orlu  constituency to lack of development and  focused representation in leadership and marginalization of the people leading to mass youth unemployment and high poverty rates.

On the forthcoming elections, she advised Imo citizens to hold on to God Almighty and be prayerful whilst coming out to vote for credible individuals.

The APGA candidate noted that God alone can heal the land, even as she declared that 2023 will birth a new progressive Nigeria with leadership that is development focused.

Earlier, in her paper presentation at the August Meeting and being the only female candidate for the House of Assembly seat, Dr.  Akwaja urged women to lead exemplary livese as nurturers and builders which they are, support their husbands and children to succeed, encouraging them to make judicious use of their God given position to influence good governance.

She condemned the ugly mentality of most women towards their fellow  women’s involvement in politics and leadership positions.

She charged  women to always support leadership ambition of their fellow women, asserting that with women like Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, late Dora Akunyili  and others occupying leadership positions the society will soon be a safer place with endless investment opportunities.
