Imo Govt. Sponsored Protest  Against PDP Leaders -Party

…Says: It’s diversionary antics to cover failures

The People’s Democratic Party , PDP in Imo State has noted with dismay another desperate antics by the alleged illegitimate regime of Gov Hope Uzodinma to hoodwink the people and divert attention from the woes and infamies of the wobbling administration.

It is mind-boggling that, after unleashing mass misery in Imo, this regime, just yesterday, deployed state resources, state authority, state appointees and other instruments of state power to stage a protest and blame key opposition leaders for the festering insecurity in the state.

The PDP considers it deeply troubling that, instead of coming out clean over its role in the gruesome murder of no fewer than fourteen young men who had recently attended a traditional marriage ceremony at Awo-Omamma, this regime has unfortunately remained unrepentant and unapologetic, and has resorted to the most bizarre contrivances to eventually set the State ablaze.

It is a harrowing experience for Imo people to live under a regime which militia force known as Ebubeagu has been widely implicated in mass murders, armed robberies, arson and abductions.

Curiously, Gov Uzodinma, till this moment, is yet to refute a very weighty allegation by the Senator representing his own senatorial district, who had accused him of creating and operating a deadly hit squad.

The State-sanctioned protest, ostensibly staged by Gov Uzodinma considering that the motley crowd was personally led and supervised by the Governor’s henchman and lackey, has consequently exposed the ineptitude and cluelessness of the Governor and his fellow pretenders to the gubernatorial seat of Imo State.

By that show of shame, Gov Uzodinma has once again alerted Imo people on his perpetual inability to ensure the security of lives and property in the state, which according to the 1999 Constitution is the primary responsibility of the government.

Such diversionary tactic has also backfired, given that Imo people have at last come to terms with the reality that there is nothing more to expect from the failed regime.

Our party is pained that Imo State under Gov Uzodinma has continued to occupy the top positions in all indices of social malady – from worsening ease of doing business to debilitating rural poverty and to deteriorating rate of unemployment, which has today risen to 83%.

The failure of governance in Imo has become catastrophic, with serious implications on security. When people find a legitimate pathway out of poverty, they can hardly resort to crime. That is soft security strategy.

The PDP and indeed the people of Imo State regret that Gov Uzodinma has cruelly jettisoned and willfully dismantled all the foundations for good governance which our Rebuild Imo Administration painstakingly put in place in all the sectors towards the socio-economic resurgence of the State. Our government commenced the Treasury Single Account, Autonomy for Local Government System, which addressed rural poverty and unleashed the potentials in the local areas, technical and skills development colleges, automated payment system for prompt payment of salaries and pensions, agricultural revolution,  infrastructural revolution, civil service reform, revival of ISOPADEC, technology and ICT development, qualitative free education, etc.

These and other programmes of the Rebuild Imo Administration were dumped by Gov Uzodinma even when he embarked on a borrowing spree, in most cases, nocturnally, which has placed Imo as the most indebted State in the entire South East, with a debt profile of N205 billion.

Imo State has indeed collapsed under Gov Uzodinma. Instead of seeking solutions, Governor Uzodimma is busy stoking the embers of more violence.

Gov Uzodinma’s protest yesterday was indeed an invitation to anarchy and an orchestrated attempt to set up opposition leaders for arrests, and attacks and assassinations by his hoodlums.

We wish to encourage the people of Imo State to keep the spirit alive, and to discountenance this very last kick of a dying horse, being aware that this regime has approached its expiry date and must give way for a PDP led-administration for the good of the people.

As long as God is still on the throne, Imo people will overcome Uzodinma.

Collins Opurozor,

DG, Imo PDP New Media.
