The body empowered by law to manage waste in Imo state, Eastern Waste Management Corporation ,EWAMAC, has condemned violent attack on its headquarters restating its resolve to stand up against bully, intimidation or obstruction by environmental saboteurs
Briefing newsmen at its headquarters the management led board member for operations Mr. Nnamdi Gogoh Okwusa alleged that an unlicensed private entity (name withheld) aided by mutinous police personnel invaded its headquarters and assaulted its staff.
In his words’, The Eastern Waste Management Corporation (EWAMAC) strongly condemns the violent, armed assault on its state headquarters carried out on Friday, July 31, 2026, by representatives of an unlicensed private entity, aided by mutinous police personnel
Okwusa stated In the lawful execution of its statutory mandate under Section 38 of the EWAMAC (Establishment) Law, 2025, the Corporation’s enforcement team intercepted and impounded a commercial truck belonging to Benicoux alleging that the vehicle was caught actively engaging in unauthorized, illegal waste dumping on public rights of way, blatantly violating Section 35 of the Establishment Law.
He further alleged that rather than submitting to the rule of law, Benicoux deployed heavily armed police officers to unlawfully breach the EWAMAC facility who maliciously destroyed the Corporation’s entrance gates and physically assaulted state personnel.
Finally the management called for the prosecution and dismissal of the trigger happy policemen as it expressed its readiness to sue the erring firm.
