The state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Imo state government are trading words over alleged sell of 71 new government vehicles as scraps.
The PDP said that the vehicles the governor was allegedly auctioning as scraps were new cars and heavy duty vehicles.
At press conference in Owerri, the state capital, the PDP’s secretary in the state, Ray Emeana,said that the governor was auctioning the 71 from a government auctioneer, M.U Osakwe for N609,000,000.
The PDP scribe said that the auctioning of the vehicles which he said were in good conditions was an attempt by Okorocha to make the incoming government of Emeka Ihedioha “difficult.”
Displaying a document from Office of the secretary to the state government and signed by one Julia Ukaigwe,Emeana said that the state government backdated the document in order to do away with the government vehicles.
The PDP secretary said ” I have called you to raise the alarm again that the out going governor of Imo state ,Rochas Okorocha has engaged the service of a government approved auctioneer, M.U Osakwe to auction 71 Imo state government vehicles as scraps.”
“This document I have here is dated December 18,2018 but our information said that this directive was issued last week Tuesday. This act by the out going governor is to make the administration of the incoming governor very difficult.”
“We want to warn that no matter how highly placed those involved are we will recover imo state government properties once we takeover on may 29.”
The PDP said that the out going governor was engaging in a last looting of the resource of the state and its properties.
According to Emeana,Okorocha was also illegally auctioning ambulances belonging to the state government.
But the secretary to the state government, Mark Uchendu said that there was no truth in the claims by the PDP.
Uchendu said that no new cars were sold even as he said that all the scrap vehicles were sold before the commencement of the general elections.
The SSG said that the incoming administration of PDP should not start on a “lying note.”
