468m Dollars Aircraft purchase: Senators move to impeach Buhari

The Nigerian Senate led by Dr Bukola Saraki have commenced impeachment proceedings against president Mohammadu Buhari, president of Africas most populous nation.
According the senate president Buhari paid out a whooping sum of $468. 374 to American firm for the purchase of Tucano Jet Fighters without the approval of the senate as provided by the constitution.
In the motion moved yesterday on the floor of the senate by Senator Matthew Urhoghide, representing Edo East Senatorial District the senate noted that the action of the president which he disclosed to the senate in a letter
read by its president  on the 25 of April 2018 did not follow due process of seeking constitutional approval of the National Assembly to appropriate such expenditure from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF)
The motion further noted that the action violated section 80, sub sections (1) (2) (3) &(4) of the constitution of the country.
Continuing the motion observed that as senators elected to observe , defend and uphold all the provisions of the constitution at all times, it was imperative that they unanimously agree that the action of the president constitute gross violation of the constitution of Nigeria.

Accordingly,   Senator Urhoghide called on the senate president to immediately set in motion the process of impeachment of the president and commander in chief of the federal republic of Nigera as provided in section 143 of the Nigeria Constitution of 1999 as amended.
