Fresh details have continued to emerge over the killing of a female nursing student whose decapitated body was discovered inside her hostel room in Umulogho community, Obowo Local Government Area, in a case that has triggered fear and outrage among residents.
The victim, identified as Wendy Achumba, was a student of the College of Nursing Umulogho and was said to be undergoing post-basic training after completing her midwifery programme. Sources familiar with the incident said the student, who hailed from Abia State, was found dead inside her off-campus apartment in Umuadara village after neighbours raised concerns over her unusual silence.
Residents said tension has persisted in the area since news of the killing filtered through the community. Neighbours reportedly forced the door to her apartment open after repeated knocks went unanswered, only to discover her mutilated body inside the room.
A resident who spoke anonymously said the victim was seen alive and in good condition shortly before the tragedy.
The Imo State Police Command said investigations into the killing have intensified, with detectives working to identify and arrest those behind the crime.
In a statement, the police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed that operatives visited the scene shortly after receiving a distress report from the area.
Mr Okoye said the victim’s remains had been evacuated and deposited in a mortuary, while investigators commenced forensic and intelligence-based inquiries into the incident.
“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” the police spokesperson stated.
