Ogunewe-AA Imo Guber Candidate Calls For Nonso Nkwa’s Release

The Governorship candidate of the Action  Alliance ,AA  in the forth coming November 11 election in Imo State, Maj. Gen. Lincoln Jack Ogunewe (rtd) has called for the immediate release of popular On-Air Personality, Mr. Theodore Chinonso Uba, otherwise known as Nonso Nkwa from the custody of the Nigeria Police in Abuja.

It will be recalled that Mr Uba was on July 27,  in a manner reminiscent of the dreaded gestapo, whisked off by some hooded Men who were later identified as men of the Ngeria Police at the Assumpta gate in Owerri the State capital on his way from work.

Gen Ogunewe condemned and frowned at the incessant harassment of the citizens of Imo State by the current administration on the flimsiest of excuses.

According to the Imo State commissioner for Information, Mr Declan Emelumba, Mr. Nonso Nkwa is held on the charges of criminal libel, which in any case is a bailable offence.

It will be recalled that in the not too recent past, notable citizens of the State which include past Governors Rochas Okorocha, Emeka Ihedioha, deputy governor Gerald Ironna and Mr Uche Nwosu among others, have been subjected to various degrees of harassment and intimidation by the current leadership in the state.

Gen. Ogunewe wondered why Mr Nonso Nkwa has not been charged to court if the state government is claiming to be defamed.

He called on the Inspector General of Police,IGP to without delay, release Citizen Nonso Nkwa or charge him to court as obtainable in other civilised World.

Imo Citizens deserve to have their basic rights respected as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, he said.
