Ministry of Transport cautions against illegal motor parks

…Constitutes enforcement team

Going by the level of unauthorized Motor parks springing up at every nook and cranny of Imo State, the Ministry of Transport  has cautioned transport operators to adhere to designated loading bays to avoid prosecution.
Speaking to journalists at the Ministry, Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transport,  Barr. Rex Anunobi noted that the unnecessary picking of passengers at unauthorized parks has caused traffic menace and disruption of the Urban renewal of the governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
The  government,he said  has come up with measures to remedy the ugly situation.
The commissoner who stated this during the transportation Stakeholders engagement forum said the government has taken a bold step to unveil ‘a new Order’ in the management of control of traffic in the state.
According to Anunobi, the Ministry is empowered by Law No 14 of 2011 to control traffic and manage traffic and all other transport activities in the state.
He posited that henceforth the Ministry will ensure that transport operators comply with loading at authorized parking areas which include Arugo Park for Port Harcourt, Onitsha bound and other passengers, Okigwe park for Mbano, Okigwe and Enugu bound, Mbaise park for Mbaise, Umuahia, Mother and Care Hospital Douglas road for Aba, Ngor Okpala and Egbeada park for Orlu and Ideato bound passengers.
He said that there is zero tolerance on indiscriminate and double parking for private vehicles adding that soon the government will announce designated ‘park and pay’ for private vehicles. He also advised drivers of articulated vehicles to adhere to the 6am to 7pm restriction of movement. He urged the Okada and Keke drivers to also maintain decorum in their places of loading.
Anunobi noted that the powerful enforcement team comprising of key transportation Stakeholders has been constituted to ensure compliance while revealing that mobile courts have been set up for speedy prosection.
