Owerri Archdiocesan CMO Laments Poor Legislative Representation In Imo

…Tasks new Lawmakers on effectiveness.

The Owerri Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Men Organization (OACCMO) has expressed concerns over the poor level of legislative representation in the State and has challenged the newly inaugurated lawmakers from the State both at the State and National levels to change the narrative by offering a more effective representation to their constituents.

The Organization spoke through their president, Mr. Kelechi Darlington Eke JP, while speaking on the inauguration of new members of  both the tenth Imo Assembly and the National Assembly.

He emphasized that the legislature is a very important arm of government because of her constitutionally conferred roles but regretted that the people have not benefited much from this branch of government in our democratic journey.

Mr. Kelechi Eke noted that this sad development could be attributed to the flawed election recruitment process where people with little or no legislative capacities find their ways in the hallow chambers and thereafter become bereft of the competence, character and capabilities that could guarantee effective representation.

The OACCMO President expressed disappointments at the attitude of lawmakers who see their privileged positions as an opportunity for wealth acquisition rather than service and quality representation of their constituents and insisted that no society can develop under such a scenario.

He stated that the enormous resources that are budgeted to the legislature does not in any way reflect on the standard of living of the people and advocated for a deliberate and adequate interrogation of the resources expended on the legislature.

He said the economy of the country and that of the  State are ailing and scarce resources cannot continue to be wasted on extravagant and unproductive lawmakers that make little or no impact in their constituencies.

Mr. Kelechi Eke however on behalf of the Organization congratulated members of the tenth Imo Assembly and members of the National Assembly from the State on their successful inauguration and urged them to use this fresh opportunity to improve the lives of their constituents.

He informed that the faith based Organization with different professionals in different fields of endeavors as members in Parishes, Chaplaincy and Special Jurisdictions across majority of the constituencies in the State shall soon mobilize committees as part of her advocacy and civic education program to monitor the overall performances of the newly inaugurated lawmakers and shall publish the outcomes to the public from time to time.
