Ex-Speaker-Nwagwu Flays Imo Assembly For Voting Against LG, Judiciary, Own Autonomy

…Says: It’s regretably Unacceptable

By Williams Odunze

Angered by the manner in which members of the Imo State House of Assembly voted against its own autonomy,  that of the judiciary and  Local Government, a former speaker of the Imo  House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kelechi Kennedy Nwagwu has berated the 9th Imo Assembly  , describing the act as the highest legislative dis-service to the citizens of the state and generation unborn.

The former Speaker, chided the members of the House for being very  much in a haste to vote in favour of a bill which tends to continue to empower the executive arm of government to the detriment of the other arms including the third tier of government, the Local Government.

He hinted that members of the 9th Imo  House of Assembly have missed the opportunity of writing their names in gold.

Rt.Hon. Nwagwu stated that Imo in particular and Nigeria in general, have been yearning for the autonomy of the judiciary, the parliament and that of the Local Government which they said, would help in advancing democratic dividends to the Nigerian people.

He further stated that  though the members wanted to please the governor,  they could have restricted  themselves to voting against the autonomy of the legislative arm rather than  voting against  of the  autonomy of the judiciary and local government.

The former speaker, regretted that it was very unfortunate for the Lawmakers to descend so low to vote against their own freedom, that of the local government and judiciary, describing their actions as the height of legislative laziness  and disservice and to Imolites.
