Igbo Town Unions Reject IPOB order to bury dead ones in 3 days

The Association of Igbo Town Unions, otherwise known as ASETU, has reacted to the statement credited  to Indigenous People of Biafra , IPOB, that the  Igbos should bury their dead 3 days after death occurred.

In a statement monitored in national dailies and other news platforms, the spokes person of the  agitation group, Emma Powerful, warns that people of the South East must bury their dead within three days, stating that it may shut down morgues that  flout the directive.

Powerful said that the group has viewed  spiritually and discovered that the extension of burying the dead beyond  three  days as done by the ancestors, is the reason Igbos are having problems.

In swift reaction,  the Igbo Town Unions said that the  statement credited to IPOB is unrealistic and beyond the determination and scope  of the  group.

The National President of the Association, Chief Emeka Diwe, who stated this in a release, said that  It is not in the place of the group to decide when and how the Igbos should bury their dead, because according to him, burial is purely a cultural/religious matter.

He noted that the decision on when to or not to bury the dead is entirely that of  the deceased’s family.

He said, ” With due respect to the views of the freedom fighters,  their struggle is not cultural but  the emancipation  of the Igbos from marginalization, intimidation and slavery.  These, I think they should concentrate on rather than venturing into the culture and belief of the people”.

“We in Igbo Town Union think that IPOB should direct their energies to the focal point of their agitation. The issue of freedom which they pursue is enough to occupy their attention”.
