Tragedy: Uzodinma Pulls Down Two Storey Building Without Compensation …Owner: No reason given for demolition …Says: Property has C of O, built 1982

A resident of Owerri the Imo State capital, Engr. George Asi has had his two-storey building demolished by the administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma.

The said two-storey building which Nigeria Newspoint learnt was demolished on yesterday (Tuesday), was located at No. 47, Egbu Road, Owerri, and was said to have all the legal documents including a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) according to investigations.

Nigeria Newspoint further gathered that no compensation whatsoever has been paid to Engr. Asi in respect of the demolished property, even as owner, Asi, does not know why the Imo State Government of Uzodinma marked his property for demolition since March 12, 2021. The now demolished two-storey building belonging to Engr. Asi is said to have complied with the masterplan of the capital city of Owerri.

Nigeria Newspoint however, gathered that Imo State Government carried out the demolition exercise through its agency, Owerri Capital Development Agency, OCDA, on alleged grounds that the building was erected on a waterway. A reason Engr. Asi is said to have refuted, insisting that his now demolished property complied with the masterplan.

Efforts to reach the OCDA General Manager, Ikpamezie for his comment failed as he phone was switched off.
