…Advise sponsors of media blackmail to allow Ngwoma breath
Nde Oha/ Council of Elders of Ngwoma Obube say its attention has been drawn to another wave of smear campaigns in the media, one of which is the publication on Newspoint newspaper of May 18, 2026, where according to them, there was a helpless attempt to discredit a very successful election that produced Emeka Akwazie as president general.
Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube in a release, said history was made on Friday May 15, 2026, with the election of Emeka Akwazie as the president general of Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community.
They iterated that it was the first in history where a proper town union leadership election was done in full witness and observation of critical stakeholders including the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Owerri North Local Government Council, the DSS, the Nigerian Police, and the media, saying that the election was conducted by “Nde Oha/ elders forum with
government agencies present observed the process as they were properly invited by “nde Oha” to observe and witness the event in line with required procedure and process.
Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube however, said that they were not surprised as the sponsors of the said publication against the election have allegedly used the pattern as a usual way of helplessly seeking public empathy and sympathy each time they lose in a process.
“When they lost in a very credible Ezeship plebiscite that brought about the emergence of our illustrious son Engr Evang Chinedu Maxwell Ekeocha as Eze elect on 3rd June 2025, the same people rushed to the media with similar propaganda including raising frivolous petitions,” Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube hinted.
The elders recalled that
on March 3, during the Imo State government distribution of sensitive security materials, the same sponsors of media campaign against Akwazie’s election as president general in a bid to achieve a failed non existent heredity claim of Ezeship allegedly went to the Owerri North Local Government Council to hijack the materials but were according to them, resisted by the security agents, adding that the items were eventually handed over to the rightfully inaugurated government Vigilante members.
“After that failed bid to forcefully take delivery of the sensitive materials, they also rushed to the media with their usual propaganda and misleading information. The media must be cashing in on them.
It is on record that they also misled a popular radio presenter into making a wrong broadcast to allegedly mislead the public. The elders (Oha Ngwoma Obube) said on getting the true story, the popular radio presenter came out later to make a counter broadcast.
Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube noted that the same sponsors of the recent newspaper story against their elected PG, Emeka Akwazie, having seen that their candidate was defeated by Emeka Akwazie in the PG election, have rushed to the media again with same usual lies to mislead the public and paint the observers in a bad light.”
“The worst of the shameless outing is a very disgraceful protest they made before the Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese who came for a very important Pastoral visit to St Michael’s Catholic Church Ngwoma, on Sunday 17th May 2026. People who want everything by all means, had to put up such a terrible display of shame in an event that should have been a moment of sober reflection and spiritual exercise.”
The Oha/ Council of Elders Ngwoma Obube therefore, advise the sponsors of the media propaganda to allow Ngwoma to breath for once.
According to Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube (Counsel of Elders), “Ngwoma Obube Development Association, NODA, which is the association where Ephraim Anuforo and few other members belong , has over the years misrepresented itself as town union which for obvious reasons was ignored until in 2024, when a court of competent jurisdiction looked into the matter, an affidavit was deposed , and an MOU by the board of trustees stipulated that NODA is just an association registered with CAC and as such cannot function as a town union and cannot also act in Ezeship selection and running of the administration of the Autonomous community.
“For the purpose of clarity, NODA is an association conceived with the intention to rally round resources for the development of Ngwoma Obube and that has always remained its soul function.”
Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube further hinted that, “the successful PG election on May 15, 2026, was in compliance with the directive by the Owerri North Local Government Council in agreement with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Owerri North Local Government Council of Traditional Rulers which earlier dissolved all president generals and their executives in all the 21 Autonomous communities in Owerri North LGA including Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community.
Explaining further, Nde Oha Ngwoma said, “a follow up order directing for fresh elections in all the 21 autonomous communities, adding that the government agencies and security agencies that came on invitation were mere observers. During the call for nomination, the same people that ran to the media because they failed the election nominated one Ikenna Okea instead of Ephraim Anuforo. Another group nominated Emeka Akwazie who happened to be the previous Autonomous Community PG, both of whom are all from the same Umuobashi village where our community zoned the PG to.”
Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube equally disclosed that prior to the election, some enemies of peace attempted to disrupt the exercise, but maintained that Emeka Akwazie emerged due to the massive support he enjoys in the community as a result of his benevolence and humility.
Speaking further on the process that produced Emeka Akwazie as the president general of Ngwoma Obube, Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube further revealed: “during the voting process, there was counting of hands up that showed that Emeka Akwazie [from same Umuobashi village with Ephraim Anuforo and Ikenna Okea] won with over 75 votes, hence was declared the winner and now returned and ratified as the PG of Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community.
The Ngwoma Obube elders said rushing to make unfounded claims for a credible and well observed election that their candidate woefully lost, shows how terribly the failure has caused grief to the losers.
Nde Oha Ngwoma Obube advised that people should not resort to self help and disturb the peace of the community each time things dont go their own way.
