In a resounding testament to the impactful governance of Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Imo State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW is set to host a joyous event this Friday. The Union aims to commend Governor Uzodinma’s “giant strides” and encourage the continued delivery of “democracy dividends” to the people of Imo State.

Comrade Jef Ikenga Eze, the Imo State Council Chairman of NURTW, briefed journalists on Wednesday, highlighting the governor’s remarkable achievements.

“Our association will roll out drums this Friday to celebrate an uncommon leader and democrat who has created a wonderful environment for the economic growth of the state,” Ikenga declared from his office in Owerri.

Eze emphasized the significant transformations witnessed in the road transportation sector in Governor Uzodinma’s six-year tenure. He specifically lauded the “quality road infrastructures” that have substantially improved the economic well-being of NURTW members and commuters alike.

The Chairman noted the auspicious timing of Governor Uzodinma’s leadership, serving during the state’s 50th anniversary. He described this as “no  coincidence but a divine enactment,” further acknowledging the governor’s impact now that he is Council boss.  Ikenga  passionately appealed to all Imo citizens and commuter operators to participate in celebrating a leader characterized by “vision, empathy, and pragmatism.”

When pressed for details on the nature and venue of the celebrations, the Union leadership revealed plans for a “Road Walk” commencing from the Dan Anyiam   Stadium and culminating at Douglas House. This procession, they explained, is a gesture of gratitude “to thank God for giving Imo State a visionary governor.” Members of the Union were urged to ensure full and successful compliance with the event’s arrangements.

Comrade Ikenga also took the opportunity to clarify the organizational structure of NURTW, informing the public that the Union is “never an appendage of the state Ministry of Transport but an affiliate of the NLC who are being supervised by the Ministry of Transport.”

He underscored the government’s impressive record, citing “numerous road networks” accomplished since the commencement of the current administration.

The briefing saw the presence of Hon. Chief Emeka Okoronkwo, the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, who was represented by Ben. Uwakwe, Director of Planning and Finance, alongside Okebaram Bora. The Chief of Staff who was  present at the briefing used the opportunity to appeal for cooperation from both the Press and the general public. He urged them to report any “questionable conducts of their members as well as fake Union members that extort money from unsuspecting members of the public,” reinforcing the commitment to integrity within the transport sector.
