As Nigeria marks another Independence Anniversary, Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe, President-General of Orluzurumee and Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Imo State House of Assembly, has called on Nigerians to recommit themselves to the values that define true freedom—unity, peace, justice, and shared prosperity.
In his Independence Day goodwill message, Nzekwe extended warm felicitations to Nigerians across the country and in the diaspora, particularly to the people of Imo State and Orlu zone. He described the celebration as both a reminder of the courage and sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and an inspiration to embrace the boundless hope and potential that lie ahead.
“This day reminds us not only of the courage and sacrifices of our founding fathers but also of the boundless hope and potential that lie within us as a people,” he said. “True independence is sustained by unity, peace, justice, and shared prosperity. Let us therefore recommit ourselves to building a society anchored on equity, progress, and mutual respect.”
Nzekwe stressed that independence goes beyond the symbolic lowering of colonial flags, noting that the essence of self-rule is fulfilled only when Nigerians embrace mutual respect, preserve their cultural heritage, and build institutions that guarantee fairness and progress.
He particularly charged the people of Orlu zone to remain united as proud sons and daughters of the land, while also contributing positively to national growth.
“As Orlu sons and daughters, and as proud Nigerians, may we continue to uphold our values, preserve our heritage, and work tirelessly for a brighter future for generations unborn,” the Orluzurumee leader harped.
The statesman concluded his message with prayers for Nigeria, Imo State, and Orlu zone, expressing optimism that the nation’s resilience would prevail over its present challenges.
“Happy Independence Day, and may God bless Nigeria, Imo State, and Orlu zone,” he concluded.
As Nigerians reflect on 65 years of nationhood, Nzekwe’s message stands as a timely reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard democracy, embrace mutual respect, love, fairness and acceptance among the tribal and ethnic divides, strengthen unity, and ensure that the sacrifices of the past translate into prosperity for future generations.
