Hunter shoots girlfriend to death in Imo …As one is killed in soldiers, Awarra youths crossfire

Tragedy occurred Sunday at Umuokire-Okuku in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, as one Chidube Onyema shot his girl friend Miss Chinaza Onyenwendu 22, to death. Chidube who is a hunter took Chinaza from her home Ohabele Obosima, Ohaji to his house at Okuku where she met her sudden death.

Eye witness account said that shortly after Chidube and Chinaza locked up themselves in Chidube’s room gunshot was heard in the room. This attracted people around and on entering the room, they saw Chinaza lying in a pool of her own blood.

Speaking to the press, the father of the deceased Mr. Cyprain Nwosu said that Miss Chinaza returned from Aba to spend the weekend with her parents only to meet her untimely death. He said that he received a phone call that Chinaza was shot and taken to Federal Medical Centre Owerri, where she later died. He pleaded with the police to see that justice is done.

Speaking in tears, the mother of the deceased Mr. Josephine Nwosu said that late Chinaza told her sometime in December, 2020, that the suspect Chidube Onyema proposed marriage to her but she refused. She asked why Chidube should kill her daughter because she refused to marry him.

Our source says that Chidube Onyema had since been arrested by the police.

In a similar development, Mr. Chinedu Obiukwu from Umuoma Obogwe in Ohaji/Egbema local government area was shot dead Wednesday, in a crossfire between solders escorting vehicles carrying crude oil, and Awarra youths.

According to our source, Awarra youths blocked the road and demanded for settlement (money) before the vehicles would be allowed to use the road for the illegal oil business popularly called ‘bunkering business’.

The misunderstanding between Awarra youths and the soldiers led to exchange of gunfire, and the deceased Mr. Chinedu Obiukwu who was returning from market at that time, was hit by stray bullets.
