Following the inability of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to supply adequate power to the people of Imo State, the Imo State House of Assembly has called on Governor Hope Uzodinma to write to the Federal Government particularly the Federal Ministry of Power for urgent intervention.

The action followed a motion moved by Hon. Dominic Ezerioha, member representing Oru West State Constituency.

Moving the motion on the lawmaker observed that while other states in the South-East have more than one transmitting stations in their various states, Imo State as a whole is left with only one transmitting stations to serving the entire state.

The lawmaker, who is also House Committee chair on Public Utilities pointed out that, Enugu has five transmitting stations, Anambra has four, Abia has three Ebonyi has three and Imo State despite her population has only one transmitting station located at Egbu.

He regretted that their investigation revealed that three transmitting power station located in some part of the state were abandoned. He listed them as Orlu transmitting power station that is about 85% near completion and those at Okigwe and Ehime Mbano respectively.

The Oru West representative stated that no reason was given for the abandonment of those projects, asserting that if those projects are completed Imo State citizens will never experience poor power supply.

He urged the house to visit the abandoned power stations.

Members of the house supported the motion.

The house after deliberating the motion unanimously resolved to urge the governor to direct the Commissioner of Public Utilities to write to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company for more transmission stations in the state.
