State Assembly: Ohaji/Egbema youths support Anyanwu …Say: Seat no longer for mediocre

In a bid to end what is described as poor representation of Ohaji/Egbema people at Imo House of Assembly, youths of the area have strongly demanded the former Transition Committee Chairman, Barr. Greg Anyanwu to run for the legislative seat come 2019, describing him as a person that has the interest of the people at heart

Making their demand public at Ohoba, the country home of the former Transition Committee Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Council recently, over five thousand (5000) youths from the twelve INEC wards in the area led by their various coordinators vehemently resolved to end poor representation which they said was the cause of high level of unemployment, absence of government projects and other avoidable neglects in an oil producing area like Ohaji/Egbema by rallying support for a credible candidate like Barr. Greg Anyanwu who understands the act of quantity representation.

The youths also decried the role of political leaders in imposing incompetent and unqualified candidates on the people as they vowed to resist any plan to force another candidate on the people. They expressed their resolve to play active role in deciding who represents them come 2019.

In his speech, Egbema Youths Coordinator, Commander Elvis expressed dismay over poor representation of the people occasioned by imposition of mediocres on the people. According to him the imposition of mediocres has left the area under­developed and the youths were no longer comfortable with the situation and for that reason have come out to end it by demanding a tested and trusted person, in the person of Barr. Greg Anyanwu to represent them come 2019.

“We the youths of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area have resolved to resist imposition. We have decided to call on you, Barr. Greg Anyanwu, to run for the House of Assembly seat. We know you will represent us as well. We want our best go to the house this time and that is why we are asking you to run for the House come 2019”, he added.

Also speaking, another coordinator from Egbema, Gift Nonye noted that youths in the area have in the past been deceived into supporting mediocres, but disclosed the decision of the youth to support only credible candidates. According to him, the youths have decided to back Barr. Greg Anyanwu because he has track record of excellent representation.

Contributing Ohaji Youths Coordinator, Comrade Ben Orioha described Barr. Greg Anyanwu as one who can always come to the aide of the youths of the area if sent to the house. He appealed to Barr. Anyanwu to accept to run to rescue the people especially the youths as he assured the former Transition Committee Chairman of the support of the youths at anytime. According to him Barr. Anyanwu empowered the youths, the windows and paid bursaries and tuition fees for indigenous students as transition committee chairman which no other person has ever done.

In his contribution, the second coordinator from Ohaji, Engr. Ugochukwu Orji collaborated with other speakers but pleaded with Barr. Greg. Anyanwu to accept the call not minding the injustice meted on him in 2015. According to him the youths would not allow him to be rigged out as was the case in 2015.

In his brief speech, President of Federation of Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Students, Comrade Ogbonna Oliver Chigozie, said his members numbering over five thousand have expressed their support for Barr. Anyanwu to go to the House. He said Barr Greg Anyanwu has distinguished himself and should be supported.

Responding, the former Transition Committee Chairman Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Council Barr. Greg Anyanwu thanked the youths for finding him worthy to be called to serve the people. While stating his urge to rescue the people from poor representation which has impoverished the area as the reason for contesting Ohaji/Egbema state constituency seat in 2015, Anyanwu expressed his willingness to run for the seat come 2019 especially now the youths have rallied their support for him but begged the youths to allow him go back to God in prayers in order to receive his directions as regards the call.

However, he called on the youths not to get weary in rallying around him assuring that in no distant time they will be victorious.

“Since my people are asking me to go and represent them, I will have no shame, no fear to go. I will rescue my people as David rescued his people. Regarding your request, I am no body to say no but I beg you to allow me commune with my God. This offer is what I have accepted to take to my God who will direct my steps. I therefore thank all of you for finding me worthy to be sent on this errand”, he added.

He urged the youths to get their PVCS as the only weapon to equip them for the fight ahead adding that the help the youths needed will come their way if he wins.

Highlights of the occasion were the general endorsement of Barr. Greg Anyanwu’s candidature by the youths.

Hon. Eze Obieze and Charles Ndukwe (Agidi).
