Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State, Don Norman Obinna, has stated that low Igbo membership registration may cost former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, the party’s presidential ticket.
It was reported that Obinna made this known while speaking over the weekend in Umuahia, serving as a special guest at the inauguration of the executive members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) for Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South LGAs.
According to him, the former Labour Party Presidential candidate may not win the ADC presidential primary unless he receives a high number of votes.
Obinna urged members of the party in the State and other lovers of Peter Obi in the South-East to participate in the ongoing online e-registration to boost Peter Obi’s chances.
The ADC Chairman lamented that the current chart of membership registration figures in ADC shows that about 400,000 persons have registered in Abia State so far, while the figure for Adamawa State is approaching 1 million.
He said,“It is not just about wanting Peter Obi to be President, the question should be how do we deliver Peter Obi.
“Even the ADC online registration, Abia is about 400,000 in the chart, while Adamawa is about 1 million. If the primary election is conducted today, will Peter Obi win, that is my question.”
He urged the members of COPDEM and ADC members at large to drive sensitisation and insist on good governance and quality leadership.
Also speaking during the inauguration, the Chairman of COPDEM in Abia State, Prince Solomon and a House of Representatives aspirant for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency, Ogbonna Abarikwu, charged Nigerians to reject bad leadership.
