Associate Professor Desmond Echeta of the Economic department of University of Agriculture and Environment Science, Umuagwo in Ohaji/ Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, will bury his father, Late High Chief Martin Munonyeso Echeta, on May 29, 2026.
He was aged 92.
A release from Associate Professor Echeta indicates that his late father, High Chief Martin Munonyeso Echeta began his education at Sacred Heart Primary School Oguta, where he obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1956. He proceeded to the Preliminary Teachers Training College in 1975, qualified as a grade II teacher in 1978. He later attended the Ikere Ekiti College Of Education, Owerri Center, and earned his National Certificate of Education, NCE.
He also pursued a degree in Education.
Associate Professor Echeta hinted that by 2001, his late father had successfully earned a Bachelor of Science, honors degree at the Imo State University.
“His leadership earned him respect and admiration. With his dedication to community development, his life would grow to become a remarkable testimony of perseverance,
but his quest for self-improvement did not stop there, still
in his professional career, the deceased rose to become the head of excellence in education administration, whose journey reflects the strength of character and commitment to community because he served with distinction and integrity until his retirement leaving behind a legacy of
true greatness ”
He noted that he was bestowed with the chieftaincy title of Ebubedike of Egbema Kingdom, for being a man of the people. A man of honour who proved that determination and discipline can overcome any barrier.
He further said that his late father served in the Department Of Statistics at the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Education Authority, adding that between 1971 and 1974, his late father served as a councillor representing Ward A in Mmahu Autonomous Community of Ohaji/ Egbema Local Government Area.
According to the funeral program signed by Echeta Ephraim Eze, there will be a Christian wake keep on Thursday, May 28, at his hometown in Umuagiofor – Mmahu, Egbema. While on Friday May 29, his body will depart the morgue for lying in state in his resident, followed by church service and interment.
