The Patriotic Imo Citizens, PIC has taken a swipe at the Greater Imo Initiative, GII , describing the group’s recent press conference in Owerri as a desperate attempt at blackmail targeted at Chima Amadi.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Chris Abumchi Anyanwueke, PIC dismissed the allegations of money laundering, unlawful possession of INEC materials, ritual practices and links to President Bola Tinubu as fabricated tales designed to mislead the public and tarnish Amadi’s reputation.
The group accused GII, led by former lawmaker, Hon. Ethelbert Nnanna of engaging in what it called “reckless propaganda and political deceit” rather than offering credible opposition or constructive engagement in the state.
According to PIC, the claims made during the press conference lacked substance and evidence, adding that the so-called viral videos referenced by GII exist only in the imagination of its members.
“It is unthinkable that a respected intellectual and strategist of Amadi’s standing would descend to such vulgarities as spraying money in public or boasting about electoral materials,” PIC noted.
On the allegation that Amadi belongs to an occult group, PIC described it as “a satanic lie fabricated by desperate politicians,” stressing that such claims expose the level of frustration and irrelevance among those behind them.
The group also condemned what it described as a reckless attempt to drag President Tinubu into the controversy, warning that linking the President’s name to unfounded allegations amounts to political irresponsibility.
PIC challenged Hon. Nnanna to account for his stewardship in public office, especially the corruption allegations that trailed his tenure, instead of resorting to character assassination and propaganda.
They maintained that Chima Amadi, popularly called “Gburugburu,” continues to stand tall despite the mudslinging, adding that he is
admired across Nigeria for his intellect, integrity and leadership qualities.
“As 2027 approaches, Imo people are discerning,” PIC stated. “They will not be swayed by blackmail or propaganda. They know who has the vision, credibility and character to lead.”
PIC averred that while the lies of GII will eventually collapse, Amadi’s reputation will endure as a beacon of credible leadership the people can rally behind for the future.
