PETER OBI PRESIDENCY: WATERSHED IN  NIGERIAN POLITICAL PROCESS

By Chucks  Osuji
One thing is certain, no country remains static in its revolutionary or evolutionary process. This is simple. Because the world its self is not static. Life in its self, is transient. In this changing life and time populated by changing circumstances, a measure of Political circumstances would prevail in Nigeria. That would be a much awaited Presidential and national elections. For four years now, the Nigeria’s political actors  and political parties have been getting ready for this major events. About eighteen political parties have registered to participate in the Presidential and State Assembly elections.
However, of less than eighteen candidates are contesting for the Presidency. Of these numbers, three are front runners. They are the candidate of All Progressive Congress, APC,whose candidate is Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The second candidate is that of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party,PDP
and the third candidate is Mr.Peter Gregory  Obi of the Labour Party,LP.
Generally, there are other splinter political parties. But it is believed that one of the three large political parties is  likely to produce the Presidency.
The alignment and realignment of this Political Parties have made the coming election very intriguing. This is so because the three Political Parties have different characteristics. In all ramifications, none of them except to certain extent the Labour Party, LP,whose ideological stands ties towards the Labour Union. On the other hand, APC is an alliance of splinter political parties who came together to dislodge PDP but did not form any iota of peace and alliance. Unfortunately, the PDP has allowed internal problems to work against its cohesion. To this effect, the internal crises right, left and center have  weakend the party’s formidability. Otherwise, by now, today, the party would have been in a position to recover the Presidency . On the other hand, the emergence of the Labour party would not have caused a treat to PDP.
As things stands today, all things, by the time the election will be over on February 23, the Labour party may turn out to be the watershed of the Nigerian Political Party.
