Measles: Immunization ‘ll reduce infant mortality -Njoku

The Executive Secretary of Imo State Primary Health Development Agency, Dr. Perry Njoku, has said that the second dose of measles immunization exercise which will commense in the 27 local government of the state, will help in reducing infant mortality rate in the state.
The Executive Secretary made the revelation in Owerri, on Wednesday, while meeting with development partners such as WHO, UNICEF and National Primary Health.
Dr. Perry who iterated the governor’s commitment towards improving the primary health care services in the state, made it clear that the 2nd dose immunization exercise will be will be carried out to fortify those who did the first dose and to capture those missed out in the first exercise.
He noted that research has shown that one dose measles vaccination may not be strong enough to protect the child against the preventable killer disease.
The Imo stare coordinator of WHO, Dr. Sabbastine Okwu, assure the Executive Secretary that his organization will continue to partner with Imo State government .
He emphasized the need for the 2nd dose immunization exercise, stating that the spinal meningitis vaccination has also been introduced into the routine immunization.
He maintained that the immunization is free and safe.
Also, the Imo State National Primary Coordinator, Dr Stella Okoro, said her agency together with the partners have put every thing in place needed for successful exercise She however urged the government to employ more hands, especially in the area of injectable, so that the exercise will run seamlessly.
