Okorocha, Araraume strategize for Congress

Political stakeholders and key players in Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC are now gearing up for the party’s congresses and national convention.
The APC in Imo State has been polarized for a long time with Gov. Rochas Okorocha and his arch-rival Sen. Ifeanyi Arararume holding court in the two different factions.
The national leadership of the APC had a released time table for congresses which will kick off on Wednesday 2nd May, 2019 when the ward congress will hold. LGA Congress comes up on May 5, 2018 while State Congress takes place on May 9th. The National Convention will come up on May 14, 2018
According to findings the release of dates for the Congresses and national convention by party National Working Committee NWC set the pace for major political camps in Imo APC to intensify their strategies and game plan in a bid to use the Congresses to strengthen their hold on the party in the State. Political analysts believe that the Congresses will determine which of the contending forces in Imo APC will have the upper hand in the fierce scramble for the soul of the party ahead of the governorship Primary.
Nigeria Newspoint gathered that the Rescue Mission camp of the Governor met at Government House, Owerri on Wednesday, 17th April, 2018. Six representatives of the party from each of the 27 local governments attended the meeting in addition to other State Government functionaries.
Sources also revealed that the appointment of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu as Secretary of APC National Convention and Congress Committee is unsettling the Governor’s camp. Though there has not been any official dissent to indicate such opposition.
Senator Uwajumogu is a strong ally of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume but how his appointment as the party’s Secretary of APC Congress and Convention Committee will sway the outcome of the congress in favour of his alliance with Araraume and those opposed to the Governor is yet to be deciphered.
