National exco dissolves Imo NAWOJ factions …Nullifies 2017 election

The highly disputed election of the Imo State Chapter of National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJI, held on November 16, 2017 has finally been nullified by the national executive of the association.
In a press release signed by the vice president South East of NAWOJ, Lion Chibota Edozie a copy of which was made available to Nigeria Newspoint, the national executive cited undue interferences from unauthorized persons which precipated crisis during the November 16, 2017 ‘stalemated’ election of the Imo State chapter of NAWOJ, as reason for the annulment of the election.
“Consequent upon the stalemate of November 16, 2017election of the state chapter and in line with the NUJ constitution, a new electoral  committee has been constituted to conduct credible election of the association within one month”, Edozie stated.
The release also discloses that the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, had earlier directed that the two parallel excos were not recognized and should cease to exist.
NAWOJ national executive therefore constituted a three-man electoral committee comprising Jennifer Okereafor as chairman, Constance Ekeocha as secretary and Ginikanwa Opara (member) to conduct a fresh election for Imo State Chapter of the association within one month.
It will be recalled that the November 16, 2017 election of Imo NAWOJ reportedly ended in controversy due to alleged irregularities, intimidation and undue interference from persons not authorized to conduct the election.
