APC NEC Meeting: Okorocha’s plot to sack party …Hilary Eke votes against him

It was another dismal outing for the governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who again was at the loosing end when his proposal to have the tenures of ward, LGA and state party officials of APC dissolved, flopped at yesterday’s National Excecutive committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

His desire to have the officials dissolved could not gain support as those in favour of extension of tenure overwhelmed him.

It was learnt that while the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun was addressing the National Exco of the party, Okorocha reportedly moved to the podium to grab the microphone from the Chairman to speak, after a slight disagreement that caused a minor uproar, he was allowed to air his views which centred on the removal of the serving officials at all strata of the party. The suggestion led to sharp division prompting the matter to be thrown into vote. While 20 voted for the extension of the tenure of the officials for another one year, Okorocha only secured four votes that earned him jeers from the crowd after the conduct of the voting.

It was further gathered that Okorocha as the APC Governors Forum Chairman had reportedly held an earlier meeting where he also lost out with the same margin in the attempt to have his way.

Further information has it that while Okorocha was busy canvassing for a removal of standing Excos at all level, he allegedly had a list of possible names of new Exco members from Imo State to take over which did not contain the name of the incumbent, Chief Hilary Eke. Eke was said to be surprised at the plot and therefore was among those who voted against the wish of his governor.
