Preaching a sermon Thursday, Sept 8 during the funeral service in honour of the deceased at St Barth’s Anglican Church, Nempi, Rev. Onyema Okenyeka of the Diocese of Oru, Anglican Communion noted that, late brother Jasper touched a lot of lives through his occupation and ministry in the course of his service to God and humanity during his short stay in the world.
Rev. Okenyeka who was impressed by the mammoth crowd including Priests from the deceased’s place of worship in Owerri, among others that turned up for the funeral observed that, it was a pointer to the type of life the deceased led while on earth, charging all and sundry to be defenders of the faith as he reminded everyone that there is a race, noting that the deceased has finished his own race, although his span of life was quite short.
He explained that the development did not mean that the living should relent in the fight for the Christian faith even as he stated that, all Christians are engaged in the heavenly struggle which is like a relay race.
Rev. Okenyeka revealed that God designed it that the departure of humans should be hidden from mortals so that people might not take undue advantage of God’s timing and their ways of life and noted that no matter what happened, humans should not query God because God knows everything and had allowed this development to emerge for a purpose.
The cleric acknowledged that late Jasper would be remembered by what he did while on earth, urging every one to maintain a godly standard till the end of their
Lamenting that we live in a wicked world filled with difficulties, disappointments and mysteries, Rev Okenyeka urged everyone to cast their hope in God even when things did not happen urging all to be prayerful and as they expected them to be, resist the activities of witches and wizards and other forces of darkness who oppose Christians.
He therefore charged the immediate family, especially, the wife to look on to God for help in all ramifications as he quoted Ps 121 and reminded her of her responsibility in bringing up her children in the fear of God and trust in God.
