..As Rivers Assembly Vows To Probe Expenditure Under SOLAD, Ibas
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday, yesterday failed to return to the Government House in Port Harcourt despite being reinstated following the lifting of the six-month emergency rule in the state
The development came as thousands of supporters gathered at the gates of the Government House from as early as 6 a.m., expecting the return of the governor.
By midday, however, many of the supporters left for their homes as the governor’s whereabouts remained unknown.
Among those at the scene were sacked Local Government chairmen loyal to Fubara, including Chijoke Ihunwo of Obio/Akpor and Ezebunwo Itche-Mati of Port Harcourt City.
Meanwhile the Rivers House of Assembly has resolved to probe the state’s finances during the six-month rule of Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator.
This is as it even urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to transmit the list of commissioners’ nominees for screening.
Reports has it that lawmakers resumed sitting on Thursday , yesterday morning after the suspension of emergency rule in the state.
It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday suspended the emergency rule with all democratic structures in the state restored.
Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, presided over the plenary at the conference hall nestled within the legislative quarters.
The Assembly is still under construction following its demolition months ago by the state government.
On March 18, Tinubu declared emergency rule in the state following a protracted political crisis arising from the rift between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Subsequently, Fubara, Ngozi Nma Odu, his deputy, and the legislators were suspended for a period of six months by the president.
Tinubu appointed Ibas as sole administrator of the state for the period.
