Nigerian Army troops, alongside the Defence Special Operations Force and the Air Component of Operation Fasan Yamma, have neutralized 23 terrorists and rescued 26 kidnapped victims in a coordinated operation in Pauwa village, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, also led to the recovery and destruction of items including motorcycles, spare parts, lubricants, farm machinery, and foodstuffs used by the terrorists.
According to a senior military source, the troops, supported by air and artillery components, engaged the terrorists in a fierce encounter, resulting in the deaths of approximately 23 armed insurgents.
The rescued victims comprised 12 women and 11 children, who were safely evacuated. In a related development, three additional kidnap victims were freed in Shaiskawa village, Matazu Local Government Area, following a firefight with terrorists by troops from Forward Operating Base Malumfashi.
The operation reflects the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and kidnapping in the North-West region. Other items recovered from the terrorists were destroyed to prevent their reuse.
The military’s decisive actions underscore their commitment to restoring security in Katsina and surrounding areas amid persistent challenges posed by banditry and insurgent activities.
