Calvary Greetings To our International President and National Executive Members of the Ecumenical World Council of Bishops and Ministers,
I am writing to tender my resignation as the National Secretary, effective June 3, 2025. This decision has not been taken lightly, and I feel compelled to share the reasons that have led me to this point.
Background:
I joined this noble Christian body last year, drawn by its vision and the potential for meaningful relationships and spiritual growth. I was convinced by the ideals presented to me and was eager to contribute to its mission. I brought many people into the fold, both in Imo State and beyond, and I have made significant contributions, including during the recent convention in Owerri.
Concerns and Disillusionment:
However, recent incidents have revealed a disconnect between the organisation’s professed values and its actual practices. After the convention, I was assaulted, attacked, and threatened, and the subsequent handling of the matter by the leadership has been grossly unjust and one-sided. The lack of due process and the apparent disregard for truth and integrity have been disheartening.
As National Secretary, I have become increasingly uncomfortable with the manner in which decisions are made and imposed without consultation or consideration for the well-being of members. The current leadership style and governance structure seem to contradict the very principles this organization claims to uphold.
Unpaid Debts I would like to bring to your attention that there are outstanding debts that remain unpaid. As you are aware, these financial obligations are a pressing concern. In the spirit of Christ, I humbly request that these debts be settled promptly, ensuring that those who have contributed to the organization’s endeavors are duly compensated.
Reasons for Resignation Given the circumstances, I have come to realize that it is not feasible for me to continue in this role. The safety and well-being of members appear not to be a priority, and the lack of accountability and transparency in decision-making processes has created an environment that is not conducive to effective ministry or personal growth.
As the saying goes, “What bitter kola claims it’s not it again.” I have come to understand that the organization’s values and practices are not aligned, and it is time for me to move on. Furthermore, “the snake that bites me will flag on someone,” and I fear for the well-being of others who may be affected by the current leadership.
Conclusion I hope that my resignation will prompt a period of reflection and restructuring within the organization. I believe that with laid-down rules and regulations, due process, and a commitment to transparency and accountability, the Ecumenical World Council of Bishops and Ministers can regain its footing and fulfill its mission.
I extend my gratitude to Archbishop Dr. Edwards CC for the opportunity to serve as National Secretary and to my fellow national officers for their collaboration and support. I have entrusted my case to a higher authority, seeking justice and fair hearing.
May God bless and guide this organization towards a path of righteousness and integrity.
Sincerely,
Bishop Prof Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna
