Technology, Job Creation – Key To Curbing Insecurity 

To curb the raging insecurity in Nigeria requires deliberate policies on the part of government and security agents.

Experts have repeatedly advised that the reliance on kinetic approach alone may not be enough to stem the tide of the mounting insecurity in different parts of the country.

Given the fact that the challenges posed by insurgency, banditry, violent agitation and herdsmen menace, have spread across the country, the need for the deployment of technology in the fight against insecurity becomes compelling.

The installation of surveillance cameras at critical areas and the use of drones and other sophisticated gadgets, would make the work of security agents easier aside its cost effectiveness.

Moreover, an effective database  is also crucial to achieving success in the fight against.

Technology invariably reduces the over-reliance on manpower.

This should however, be complimented by concerted efforts in the area of job creation, skill training and empowerment of youths; and such calls for synergy between government and the private sector.

Empowering, employing and engaging youth in meaningfully,

will deplete the recruitment base of insurgents and bandits because an idle mind is said to be the devils tool.

By now, states and the Federal Government of Nigeria ought to have implemented a social security system reminiscent of what obtains in countries of the west, Saudi, UAE, Qatar, the Republic South Africa, among others.

 

It is long overdue.
