Umulewe Town Union: Okpara Emerges Caretaker Chairman …Election of Substantive Exco holds, Dec. 29

 

Elder Gregory Okpara has emerged the Acting President General, Umulewe Town Union, Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.

This followed an emergency congress of the community’s town union held on January 1, this year. Others who emerged with him include Chinonso Ugwuneri who is the Acting Secretary;  Prophet Nna Eboh is the Acting Vice President, Mr Ikechukwu Nwosu is the Acting Treasurer, among other representatives of the various villages in Umulewe Autonomous Community.

A communiqué issued at the end of the said emergency congress of the community on January 1, states that the tenure of the immediate-past executivre of Umulewe Town Union ended on December 29, 2023, and in line with the constitution of the community, a congress was scheduled for that day.

The communiqué further states that following the absence of the immediate-past executive on the said December 29, 2023, the community unanimously adopted a motion to dissolve the executive, and instantly appointed an Electoral Committee chaired by Elder Okpara.

The communiqué equally states that Electoral Committee scheduled an emergency congress on January 1, this year where, following the massive attendance, another motion was passed authorizing the Electoral Committee to function as Caretaker Committee of the town union for one year, adding that the reason was for the caretaker to harmonise all sub-units of community, reconcile and calm frayed nerves preparatory to the scheduled December 29, congress that willconduct elections for a new executive  committee of Umulewe Town Union.
