Flood submerges umuna community Blind Victim calls for help …It’s our social responsility -Oluigbo

High velocity run-off (flood) has forcefully ejected both landlords and tenants in Ebenator, Uzoubi Umuna community in Orlu local government area of Imo state, Sunday.
A blind man, Francis Okafor was worse hit, as he, in addition to being forcefully ejected, sustained injuries while trying to hand-locate the exit door of his bedroom when the flood rampaged, covering everywhere. Narrating his order Okafor said the sustained heavy down pour in the night resulted to heavy flood which singled from the burrow pit in the nearby axis. The flood he maintained defiled the obstructive measures of the sand-bags used as flood check, pushed into his living room with an unimaginable speed that gave him the shock and trauma of his life. He called on the interim management committee, individuals, churches and organizations to come to his aid.
When contacted, the Chairman Interim Management Committee, Hon. Aloysius Oluigbo, confirmed the incident. He said he received frequent distress calls at about 2.30am concerning the food. He told newsmen that the entire Umuna landscape is flooded and erosive prone, and needed environmental experts to re-contour the topography of the area, insisting that the project needs both state and federal government intervention for something meaningful to be done. The council boss was optimistic that the present government under Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha will give environmental issues the deserved attentions. On behalf of the Council, Hon. Oluigbo approved an immediate relief package of One Hundred Thousand naira (N100,000) to enable the blind victim satisfy his immediate needs.
According to him, it is the social responsibility of government to help its citizens who have such problems, and called on well meaning citizens of Orlu to help the victims of Umuna flood. He charged the people in the area to take environmental sanitation seriously, and to remove all solid waste that may block drainages and cause flooding .
