AIFCE celebrates 2018 commonwealth day

The Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education in collaboration with “First Lady Save Our Youths Campaign” has celebrated her 2018 Commonwealth Day with the theme” Towards a common future” held at the school hall.
In his address, the Acting provost of the college, Dr. Dan Anyanwu welcomed the guests and participants and stated that there are opportunities for each and every one of us as members to the Commonwealth family to become involved with our fellow citizens as we live, learn work and volunteer effort by people working as individuals, in groups or through larger associations is what shapes the Commonwealth and all our countries, adding, that by pledging to serve the common goal in new ways, we can ensure that Commonwealth continue to grow in scope and stature to have an even greater impact on the peoples’ lives, today and the future.
In her Commonwealth Day message, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth (11) stated that our lives are enriched when we learn from others through exchanging of ideas and seeing life from other perspectives, we grow in understanding and work more collaboratively towards a common future as there is a special value in the insights we gain through Commonwealth.
In her Speech, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland stated that we should cooperate in many ways for the common good and also, work together to achieve this by creating channels through flow from the government and people of all our communities into a continually renewed and refreshed Commonwealth ocean of knowledge.
Rt. Hon Scotland however, emphasized that through our faith in Commonwealth project, we draw wisdom and insights from secular streams of thought and from many communities and traditions that are the seed of faith as such resources and riches add to all that we celebrate on Commonwealth day and they are indeed treasures to be cherished and shared.
Delivering his lecture with the theme “Sustaining development and Fundamental Human Right”, the Resource Person Barr Sylvester Amadi-Obi stated that Fundamental Human Right is a vehicle for the attainment of the Sustainable Developmental Goal and the United Nations from time to time adopts a resolution wherein the set goals are geared towards the development of our planet terms of life, environment and general well being of our planets and the inhabitants.
He equally maintained that Human Rights as we have seen are those fundamental norms or rights we are entitled to as humans, those rights embedded in the SDG and urged our governments to adopt the implementation strategies set out by the United Nations.
