Police harassment: Ihiagwa petitions Imo CP

The people of Umuokwu Dindi Ihiagwa Autonomous community in Owerri West Local Government Area Imo State have written a strongly worded petition to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike over alleged incessant harassment by policemen in his command.
In the petition, dated March 15, 2018, addressed to the Imo State Commissioner of Police, signed by Chief Nze Vincent Oparaugo, Mr. Chukwuemeka Agoziem and Ezinna Sir Sam Ajoku, which copies were made available to news men, pleaded with him to investigate the matter so that he will call his men to order, pointing out that if they should continue with the alleged intimidation, they would have no option than to defend themselves by any means.
They further disclosed that the said police men, described as “visiting Mopol”, numbering over ten, from the state command headquarters, on Monday, March 12, 2018, unleashed terror in their community, beating up anyone on sight while shooting sporadically and, deflated the tyres of tippers at the Tipper Park Ihiagwa.
Umuokwu Dindi Ihiagwa community also accused the said police men of arresting and beating to stupor one Mr. Kelechi Ajoku until he was rescued by an officer attached to Umuoma Police division Nekede Owerri name withheld for security reason.
They were emphatic that their boundary with FUTO has not been determined and wondered why they should be intimidated and harassed by men of the Police force at such they would no longer condoned the intimidation.
Umuokwu is known as a peaceful community in the entire Dindi Ihiagwa in Owerri West Local Government whose citizens are revered to be law abiding.
