Health for all: Ihitaoha community flags off measles vaccination campaign

Following the recent flag-off of measies disease vaccination campaign by the wife of Imo State governor, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha  at the state level, Ihitaoha Ancient kingdom, one of the’ most thickly populated   autonomous   communities   in Owerri North local government   area of the state has launched massive and community-wife campaign  against the  globally acclaimed child killer disease.
Speaking at the Owaelu Primary School playground venue of the flag off campaign yesterday, the wife of the traditional ruler of Ihitaoha, Ugoeze Comfort Okoro charged all women, particularly, mothers whose children are between 9months and five years to participate fully in the exercise.
Stressing that a healthy child is a source of joy to the mother, the family and entire society, Ugoeze Comfort Okoro
commended the Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas and Imo State first lady Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha for instituting intensive and sustainable health care programme for people of the state.
According to Ugoeze Comfort Okoro, by flagging off the measles vaccination campaign in the state early enough this year, in line with the United Nations action plan for health care delivery , the Imo State First lady, Ugoeze Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha had demonstrated unquantifiable love and care for the health of entire people of the state.
“Every person who is aware that measies disease does not spare its victims as it causes partial blindness, total blindness or untimely death, will appreciate what our first lady, the wife of our state
governor has done for us. I commend the Imo first lady’s vision and care for us all. May God bless her”, Ugoeze Comfort Okoro stated.
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Dr. Emmanuel Okoro has directed all village heads, members of the Eze’s cabinet, community leaders as well as heads of public and private schools and churches in the area to embrace and expedite action on the vaccination campaign.
Commending the Imo State government for making the vaccination programme free of charge, Eze Emmanuel Okoro, the Eze Oha II of Ihitaoha Ancient Kingdom advised parents thus, “please Jet us pay heed to the vaccination campaign. It is very important. Let us be wise and appreciative by bringing our children to be immunised against measles in order to prevent the deadly
disease.
The traditional ruler commended the president-general of the community Mr. Jonathan Opara, elders, women leaders and youths of the community for their co-operation and moblising parents to participate in the flag off campaign. Eze Okoro also gave kudos to cabinet chiefs as well as staff and management of Owerri North and state government health officers for helping to actualize the event.
The flag off campaign proper conducted by the chairperson of Owerri North local government Mrs. Viola Osuagwu was preceded by a public lecture/brief on national immunization schedule delivered by Mrs. Winifred Oduah, chief nursing officer, Owaeiu health centre.
