Citing the need to accord maximum respect to their colleague who passed on recently, the Senate on Thursday, shifted the formal inauguration of their new members to Tuesday next week..
The upper legislative chamber had earlier communicated Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu of Imo North senatorial district and his counterpart from Kogi state, of the senate’s resolve to formerly inaugurate and welcome them into their fold on September 22.Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who regretted the inconveniences the change in date would cause his new colleagues, urged the two senators-elect to return on Tuesday, as it is customary in the two chambers to always accord respect to their colleagues.
In his reaction, the Media Assistant to the Imo north senator-elect, Mr. Emeka Ahaneku, who described the inaugural postponement as very unfortunate in view of the joyful wind of celebration, the news of the inauguration had sparked in Okigwe zone, urged the good people of the zone not to despair, but to remain optimistic that the mandate they sought for has arrived.
He however maintained that the senator-elect, in his humble and peaceful disposition would continue to abide by the rules of the National Assembly, even in the service of his people.
