Introduction:
When it is said that the Catholic Church, as a monolithic organization, owes its success and stability to the sound education and competence of its human resources, the evidence can be found in many of her priests. Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Raphael Chima Ofoegbu stands out as a striking exemplar of such dedication and achievement.
Born in Enugu on August 3, 1971, he hails from Umuike, Umuotobuoche, Umuorii, Uratta, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. He has demonstrated unwavering commitment to personal growth, ecclesiastical service, and societal development. From an early age, he embraced the scriptural admonition to “remember your Creator in the days of your youth,” entering priestly formation with determination and vision.
Academic and Professional Excellence:
Rev. Dr. Ofoegbu’s academic journey is remarkable for both breadth and depth. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Sociology and Personnel Management, an M.Sc. in Industrial Sociology and Personnel Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Sociology, an M.A. in Peacebuilding Management, an M.A. in Applied Ethics and Theology, a Bachelor of Divinity (Hons, Second Class Upper), a Bachelor of Philosophy (Second Class Upper), a Diploma in Latin, and a Certificate in Italian Language.
To complement his formal education, he is affiliated with esteemed professional bodies including the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA) and the American Sociological Association (ASA). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Practitioners (United Kingdom), actively contributing to curriculum development and quality education initiatives.
His engagement extends beyond academics. As a Certified Grade 11 Football Referee under the Nigerian Football Referees Association, (NRA) he officiates at national league matches, demonstrating versatility and discipline. Academically, he has published seventeen articles in reputable journals on topics spanning hawking and prostitution, social stratification, legal systems, industrial safety, militancy, kidnapping, globalization, and the manufacturing sector.
Dr. Ofoegbu’s commitment to continuous learning is reflected in his participation in international conferences and professional trainings, such as Violence Prevention Education at San Diego University USA, NASA Conference at Baze University, Abuja, Certified Research Ethics Training Program at Imo State University, the International Diabetes Conference in Abu Dhabi, and Effective Management of Parish and Church Structures in Port Harcourt.
Multilingual and Global Engagement:
Fluent in Igbo and English, Rev. Ofoegbu has advanced proficiency in Italian and basic Spanish, enhancing his capacity to operate in international settings. He is also digitally literate, equipping him for global academic and pastoral work.
Ecclesiastical, Academic, and Humanitarian Service
Dr. Ofoegbu’s career reflects a rare balance of scholarship, pastoral service, and institutional leadership. His appointments include:
* Academic Dean, Immaculate Conception Seminary, Umuahia (1996-1998)
* Lecturer in Sociology and Research Methodology, School of Midwifery, Aboh-Mbaise (1998-2000)
* Formation work and pastoral experience across Italy, Ghana, Tanzania, and the USA (2000-2004)
* Chaplain, Ospedale SS. Salvatore, Italy (2004-2005; 2007-2008)
* Ministry to the African/Nigerian Catholic community in Ireland (2005-2007)

In addition, he is the Pathfinder and co-founder of “The Missionary Institute of the Friends of Christ”, contributing personal resources and leadership that secured him the distinguished title of co-founder.
Currently, Fr. Ofoegbu is a student and research scholar at the University of San Diego and a CPE scholar at the Loma Linda University Hospital Spiritual Care Center in the United States of America, furthering his expertise in pastoral care and research.
