The spirit of unity, culture, and womanhood resonated in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State, as the women held the grand finale of their August Meeting.
The well-attended event, which took place on Thursday, August 4, at the LGA council headquarters, witnessed the presence of the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, her husband, and other prominent personalities who joined the women to celebrate.
In her speech, the Deputy Governor challenged women to embibe the theme of the year’s event, “Women Of Great Deeds,” by living exemplary lives that would positively shape their homes and society.
“Your efforts are not invisible. God and the people around you see them. Good deeds eventually pay off, just as they did in my own life. I never hought I would be Deputy Governor, but consistency and service made it possible,” Ekomaru said.
She praised the First Lady, Barr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodinma, as a model of selfless service and leadership.
According to her, the First Lady’s tireless commitment to women and children makes her a true example of a woman of great deeds.
In her address, the Chairperson of Mbaitoli LGA, Mrs. Gertrude Lebechi Nwanegwo, described women as the strength of every community, adding, mothers are builders, peacekeepers, and leaders whose contributions sustain society.
She urged women to leave enduring legacies of service, peace, and progress.
While acknowledging the First Lady’s unwavering support for women, Mrs Nwanegwo applauded her husband, Hon. Ifunanya Nwanegwo, the LGA Chairman, for his grassroots impact, and commended local leaders whose solidarity ensured the success of the meeting.
She further expressed gratitude to the First Lady for decentralising the August Meeting and making it more inclusive at the grassroots.
She thanked the Deputy Governor and her husband for identifying with Mbaitoli women and encouraged the women to continue interceding in prayers for their families, leaders, and the state.
Other prominent speakers included APC chieftain Chief (Barr.) Marcon Nlemigbo, HRH Eze Goddy of Isi Ogbaku, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie (Mbaitoli’s representative in the State Assembly), Hon. Frank Onyeji (Leader of the Mbaitoli Legislative Council), and Hon. Kingsley Ononiwu (former Commissioner). They all lauded the women for sustaining the August meeting tradition and contributing to community peace and development.
The climax of the event was cultural displays, food exhibitions, march-past, dance competitions, and cutting of the cake to mark the August Meeting.
The Chairperson also distributed bags of rice and cash gifts to some indigent women in the LGA.
