…Berates LG legislative leadership ,allege blackmail against Gov.
Rising from an emergency general assembly held yesterday, Sunday, June 23, the people of Obiangwu Autonomous Community, Ngor Okpala Local
Government
Area, Imo State, have voiced their total rejection of the interim caretaker committee recently constituted for the community by Hon Chika Ibekwe, Chairperson Ngor Okpala LGA.
The community which declared its stand via a voice vote, equally condemned the
Leader of Ngor Okpala Legislative Council Hon Chibuike Agbugba’s alleged reckless and provocative political statements which he quoted as belonging to the Governor.
According to the community, the rejection of the committee stemmed from many reasons. These are that the chairperson appointed people without reputable character who were appointed in secret without consulting constituted authorities in the community,Including the traditional ruler.
They also alleged that the caretaker after being secretly appointed, was also allegedly administered fetish oath by their councillor, for the purpose of making them his stooges and allegedly conduit pipe for the siphoning of the community’s funds, as well as plans uncovered by them as hatched by the chairperson .
They also accused the councillor of plotting to secretly transform the interim committee into substantive executive, and thereafter embark on a mission of frustrating every plan of the community to conduct a democratic town union election.
The community in one voice strongly condemned the alleged reckless provocative, embarassing, and unbecoming utterances of the Legislative council Leader, Agbugba, who represents the community in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area Legislative Council, who also doubles as the Leader of the Legislative Council.
According to them, since himself and the chairperson embarked on their illegal and unconstitutional attempt to foist their handpicked stooges on them as town union executive,he has continued to make highly politically sensitive,provocative and potential divisive statements, in a desperate attempt to lure stakeholders in the community to his side.
He is said to have gone ahead to allegedly quote the governor as making those statements to him and some other persons in confidence.
They cited example with his recent claim that the governor allegedly told him and the leaders of other legislative councils in Owerri Zone, during a meeting with them, that he has already ceded Owerri Zone Senatorial ticket to the former APC Senatorial Candidate from Owerri North Local Government Area.
The assembly made it clear that the said claim apart from being clearly reckless, was also highly provocative and capable of sowing seeds of confusion and discord in the party, especially in Owerri Zone,where the people of Ngor Okpala LGA,have already concluded that it is their turn to go to the Senate, having not tasted it since 1999.
They further noted that he brought Gov Uzodinma’s name and hard earned image to ridicule and disrepute with that statement, calling on members of the Ngor Okpala Legislative Council to immediately remove him as their leader, just as the community prepares to recall him from the council.
Continuing, the community demanded immediate conduct of town union election, to prevent adminstrative vacuum in the community; immediate dissolution of the secretly handpicked caretaker; and cautioned the chairperson Hon Ibekwe from Continuing to meddle in the affairs of the community, as such has resulted to factionalization of the community, and attendant tension and crises.
Obiangwu Community profusely apologized to the governor over the embarrassing and shameful attempt by their son(the Leader) to damage and drag his name in the mud,in his desperate quest for power and influence.
