Burkina Faso’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has reportedly turned down Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy’s offer to host a free concert in the West African country.
According to reports by Burkina Faso-based media outletTrulilgramon Instagram, Burna Boy had proposed the concert via his secondary Instagram account, expressing a desire to perform for free for the people of Burkina Faso.
“If possible, it would be an honor for me to give the people of Burkina Faso a free Burna Boy concert sometime this year, Insha Allah,” the singer reportedly wrote.
However, President Traoré is said to have politely declined the offer, emphasizing that his country is currently focused on more pressing priorities and cannot afford distractions at this time.
Trulilgramfurther reported that citizens aligned with the Burkinabè government’s stance, suggesting that while they appreciated Burna Boy’s goodwill, their main focus remains on national unity and the protection of the country’s leadership.
“President Ibrahim Traoré said he appreciates the love but doesn’t need distractions in Burkina Faso,” the platform wrote. “And the people of Burkina Faso reportedly said Burna Boy should take the concert somewhere else, as they need to focus on their goal to protect their president.”
The story has sparked discussion online, with some praising Burna Boy’s gesture and others supporting the government’s decision to prioritize national focus over entertainment events.
