The authorities of Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, alongside community leaders, heads of security agencies, and other key stakeholders, have fully keyed into the Imo State Government’s “Community Development and Mobilization” initiative as recently unveiled by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.
The initiative, which is being implemented across all 27 LGAs of the state, is aimed at enhancing grassroots security, expanding the reach of the Imo Social Health Insurance Scheme (IMSHI), accelerating community-based development, and recovering government properties currently in unauthorized possession.
The committee, personally constituted by the Governor, draws membership from a broad spectrum of stakeholders within each LGA. The Ahiazu version of the committee was formally inaugurated at the Council Headquarters, Aforu on Wednesday May 14, 2025.
In his address, the Executive Chairman of Ahiazu LGA, Hon. Chief Larry Chikwe, charged members to see their appointment as a civic responsibility and a direct call to service. He emphasized that the success of the Governor’s grassroots reform strategy depended on the commitment and unity of purpose among the committee members.
To fast-track the implementation of the objectives of the governor, Chief Chikwe reconstituted the committee members into specialized subcommittees and empowered them to swing into action without delay.
Membership of the committee consisted of the local government chairman as the committee chairman, elected members of the national assembly from Ahiazu, all government appointees, local government councilors, traditional rulers, president generals of town unions and heads of security agencies in the local government.
Officials from the Imo State Health Insurance Agency present at the meeting also sensitized stakeholders on the benefits of the IMSHI program. They encouraged the registration of community members—particularly the indigent—for the one-year health insurance coverage available through the scheme.
According to Dr. Nnorom Emecheta, Senior Special Assistant, Media to the Executive Chairman, there were goodwill messages and commendations from traditional rulers, town union presidents, the CPS to the Governor, Hon. Oguwike Nwachukwu, and heads up security agencies operating in the local government area. They all applauded Governor Uzodimma’s foresight in establishing the committee and pledged their commitment in actualizing the goals.
