Ace broadcaster, Oge Iwu dies broke: Ex-IBC staff owed N5.1m arrears, pensions

The sudden death of Imo-born ace broadcaster, Mr. Oge Iwu, an ex-staff of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, and pioneer staff of Hot FM Owerri, has shaken the media industry and many citizens of the Imo State.

Mr. Iwu was renowned for introducing the popular phone-in programme, “Peoples Assembly” in Hot FM Owerri around 2010, the programmes opened the flood-gate for other similar interactive radio programmes in Imo and other states of the South East.

Nigeria Newspoint gathered that the renowned broadcaster had before his demise yesterday, hinted some friends that he was ‘broke’, raising questions as to why the state government could not pay his entitlements said to be worth over N5.1 million comprising about 11 years salary arrears and 45 months pensions.

Iwu had during his hospitalization at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owerri, a couple of months ago made several appeals through the media, for the Imo State Government to pay him what he said was his 45 months pensions and 11 years of salary arrears. His appeals were however, not responded to by the state government inspite of his pitiable condition after one of his legs was amputated at FMC Owerri.
