Imo APC ward congresses peaceful, fair-Chieftains

The APC Ward Congresses conducted in Imo state last weekend have been adjudged peaceful, credible, transparent, free and fair.

Addressing newsmen in a joint press conference convened by members of the Imo APC Restoration Coalition, as well as the Imo APC stakeholders Forum in Owerri, Sen. Benjamin Uwajumogu, representing Imo north senatorial district, who spoke on behalf of the groups, described as erroneous and unfortunate the statement credited to Governor Rochas Okorocha that the scheduled Congresses never took place in the state.

He however accused the governor of having planned to subvert the wishes of the party members in the state by allegedly kidnapping officials of the party from Abuja, who came to supervise and monitor the Congresses, adding that when that plan failed, the governor resorted to mobilize thugs numbering about 5000 who came in the branded vehicle of his son in-law to foment trouble at the party secretariat.

Senator Uwajumogu, further called on members of the party to disregard the statements coming from the governor, as Congresses took place in all the electoral wards of the state.

State chairman of the party, Dr. Hillary Ekeh, in his speech, while thanking God for the successful conduct of the Congresses in the state, hailed members of the party in the state for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner.

He maintained that the ward Congresses of the party were duly conducted in the 305 electoral wards of the state, as according to him, that has been confirmed from chairmen of the party in the 27 council areas of the state.

Corroborating the statements, the state organizing secretary of the APC, Chief Clement Anozie, also confirmed that the Congresses were held in line with the constitutional provisions of the party.
