Attempted Assault on Archbishop Obinna: Imolites Carpet Okorocha, Nwosu …As Video of show of shame goes viral

Angry reactions have continued to trail last weekend’s attempted assault on the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastes Provence, Archbishop Anthony AJV Obinna by aides of Gov Rochas Okorocha allegedly led by Mr Jeff Nwaoha.

Those who spoke on the issue including prominent politicians not only condemned the act in the strongest terms possible but also reminded the governor that the magnanimity and patience of the state should not be mistaken for cowardice.

Meanwhile, the video of the unholy attempt on the man of God has gone viral setting the internet on fire and drawing a deluge of angry reactions from internet users.

Reacting to the report in a press release issued and signed by him, ex House of Reps member Hon Uche Onyeagucha described the act as a sacrilege and abomination of the highest order.

The APGA chieftain wondered why the government of the day would want to stop men of God from doing the work of God through their sermons /homilies stressing that anyone who is averse to this should learn to stay off the church.

He opined that attempt was the height of violence adding that if the government and its agents could attempt to assault the archbishop killing priests would mean nothing to them if given the chance.

In his own reaction, Capt David Mbamara ( Rtd), who is also a governorship hopeful on the platform of APGA decried the act and noted that it was not the first time Gov Okorocha and his loyalists were desecrating the temple of God.

He recalled that such happened in 2015 when supporters of the governor destroyed canopies and podium erected for governorship debate and assaulted priests at Assumpta Cathedral Owerri.

While warning against the continuing unleashing of violence against dissenting opinions and individuals Capt Mbamara also condemned what he tagged a conspiracy of silence on the part of APC at national and state level in the face of Gov Okorocha’s alleged humiliation, assault and violence against Imo people.

He further said that the government and its functionaries should not misconstrue the tolerance, patience and open mindedness as weakness saying the way they were being pushed by the government was nearing breaking point.

Nigeria Newspoint can recall that hell was reportedly let loose at St Michael’s Catholic Church, Ngwoma Obube, weekend when aides of the government allegedly led by Mr Jeff Nwoha attempted to seize the microphone from Archbishop Obinna during the funeral sermon of mother to APC chieftain Chief Alex Mbata.

The attempted was said to have followed Archbishop Obinna ‘s call on Imolites to go and register and get their Permanent Voter Card PVCs preparatory to voting out the bad government in the state.

This declaration was said to have infuriated government aides who attempted to get at Archbishop Obinna ostensibly to seize the microphone

It was further gathered that the wife of the Gov Ugonneoma Nkechi Okorocha and her son in law and Chief of Staff Ugwumba Uche Nwosu were physically present and sat relaxedly on their seats without raising a finger while the attack lasted.
