Taximo colour: Commercial drivers reject Rochas’ order

Taxi/Bus Drivers Welfare Association DWA, Imo State chapter has rejected in its entirely the February 28 ultimatum given to them to submit their vehicles to the Ministry of Transport for painting and fleeting numbering saying the deadline is too short coupled with what they described as high exorbitant rate levied by the Ministry for the new Taximo colour.

It could be recalled that the state Commissioner for Transport, Prince Lasbery Okaforanyanwu had earlier mandated all commercial drivers in the state to comply with government directive and submit their vehicles for painting and fleeting at the cost of sixty thousand naira (N60,000) per vehicle, a move which DWA faulted from the onset.

In a release signed the national chairman of DWA, Chief Enog Unakalamba and the Secretary, Comrade James Ureh, the body is pleading with government to allow them go elsewhere to paint their vehicles at a more cheaper rate and later come for fleeting or permit them ample time to source for the fixed amount by government by way of extention of the deadline.

The body also rejected the idea of tracking their vehicles by government as according to them, they are not accountable to anybody or group since they acquired their vehicles themselves.

They promised to continually support the urban renewal project of the state adding that any stringent move by government to persuade them on the policy may result in hardship on Imolites.
