UNN Alumni honour Uwakwem, AIFCE Provost

The Alumni Association of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has honoured Imo State Commissioner for health, Hon. Dr. (Mrs) Angela Uwakwem with an award of excellence in public service.

According to the association, the prestigious award of excellence was in appreciation of the awardees’ great learning, indelible impacts in the medical profession and outstanding devotion in service to humanity.

Presenting the award to Angela Uwakwem at the Imo State International Trade and Investments Centre, Owerri, the president of Owerri branch of the association and permanent secretary (establishment) in the office of Imo State head of service, Dr. (Mrs) Pat U. Ekennia observed that the Imo State incumbent commissioner for health had in many ways, distinguished herself in service to the society as a well-groomed product of UNN.

Dr. (Mrs) Pat U. Ekennia recalled that the award recipient, Angela Uwakwem had before her present position as health commissioner, performed creditably as the chief medical director of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, during which period, the federal medical centre acquired an enviable status as second to none in Nigeria.

The president of the Owerri chapter of UN alumni association did not fail to mention that Dr. (Mrs) Uwakwem was before assumption of office as commissioner incharge of Imo State health ministry, the special adviser to Imo State governor on health matters.

According to the association’s Owerri branch president, Angela Uwakwem is worthy of great honour and desirous of encouragement.

The National president of the association, Surveyor Ben Okoronkwo who featured as guest lecturer at the occasion described Angela Uwakwem as a worthy ambassador of UNN and great pride to the association.

Also honoured by the association for excellence in service to the society is another amazon and provost of the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Dr. (Mrs) Blessing Ijioma.

By the association’s assessment, Blessing Ijioma, an alumni of UNN, had by brilliant performances in the nation’s education sector, flown UNN’s flag to great heights.

The occasion which attracted eminent personalities and great number of UNN alumni, including prominent politician, Chief (Dr.) Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), among others was presided over by the Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice Pascal Nnodim.
