Need To Tackle The Imo Rural Roads Conundrum

The issue of poor road network in many rural communities in Imo State has, and continues to dominate discourses across the state.

From Ngor Okpala, Onuimo, Ikeduru, Mbaitoli, to Ohaji/Egbema,  Ideato North, Ideato South LGAs among others, the story remains the same.

The situation apparently subsists despite that the rural communities produce most of the food that feed the urban centres in the state.

Since the local government areas consistently claim that they do no’t possess the financial capacity! to handle road construction projects; and given also the alleged meddlesomeness of states in the statutory allocations accruing to the local governments, the buck finally stops on the table of state governments and their governors.

A good road network facilitates economic activities in a state.

It is even a determinant in the ranking of ‘Ease Of Doing Business’ among states.

Sadly, Imo was not ranked among the first 10 states on Ease of Doing Business aired on an Arise TV programme recently.

Nigeria Newspoint urges the present administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma to leverage the window provided by the subsisting dry season in 2026, to expedite action on Imo rural roads, atleast before the rains return in the coming few months.

The earlier this is achieved, the better for the state and citizens.
